The Prom: The Homophobia is Coming from Inside the House
Bitch, Why? por Neeta Thadani & Gaia Malin
Notas del episodio
This week, we covered The Prom, a musical-to-movie adaptation directed by Ryan Murphy. We get into how this movie fails at adapting from the source material, why it doesn’t qualify as “camp”, and whether or not straight people can play gay roles. We, of course, discuss the controversial James Corden performance, Neeta talks about how to handle POC coming out narratives, and Gaia discusses the importance of actually giving homophobia its weight and the very real struggles of teen activism. We also somehow get on the topic of queer teen style and conclude that Harper from Wizards of Waverly Place would have been a gay style icon today and so much more, this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.
