Though they have been a useful resource for prospective students and families doing research to make decisions on K-12 and higher education, for some time now, the U.S. News and World Report's "best colleges" lists have been under scrutiny. At the sime time, academic pressure and competition to get into the so-called "best" schools has increased, particularly in high-achieving areas.
