Argentina elections: Crisis, Milei and the left (Interview with Horacio Machado)On October 22, Argentinian voters head to the polls in a presidential election amid skyrocketing inflation and a severe social and economic crisis. Right-wing libertarian political outsider and self-described "anarcho-capitalist" Javier Milei took the lead in the August primaries. The Peronist ruling coalition, led by Argentina's current Economy Minister Sergio Massa, suffered a crushing historic defeat, finishing a distant third. To find out more about the situation on the ground and what's really at stake in the election, I spoke with Horacio Machado, an independent researcher for Argentina's National Council of Science and Technology and a professor of sociology at the National University of Catamarca.
