First the pandemic and then the war in Ukraine disrupted international trade and fragmented global supply chains to such an extent that many countries, including the US, have started localising their economies, strategically important industries in particular.

In this talk we look at the impact these developments are having on intergovernmental multilateral initiatives and explore how international cooperation might be improved in the longer term through transnational solutions such as SIMPOL, which counters destructive global competition through ‘simultaneous policy making’.
