Members will spend the evening in a relaxed, informal environmment with surgeons from different stages of their careers... while drinking chai. This event aims to break the sterotypes placed upon surgeons as we dissect different perscpetions of surgery while maintaining a calm, supportive space.

    Chai with surgeons is back again (without the chai) The lack of caffeine is one of many challenges Muslim surgeons face in Ramadan… 🌙 Join us to learn about balancing ibada with all the plates surgeons try to juggle during Ramadan and beyond🙈🤹‍♀️ A bit about our guest: Ms. Suzaane Elgammal is of mixed Irish/Egyptian heritage 🇮🇪🇪🇬 and graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1997 (3 years after she got married 💍). After surgical placements in Paeds, A&E, Ortho & General Surgery she finally found her calling as a Consultant Breat Surgeon. 👩🏻‍⚕️+🧕 Alongside all that, she founded the muslim medic society at her university and has been involved in various islamic / community activities. ☪️ She has completed the iSyllabus foundation course and is on a path to get closer to Allah SWT (as we all are) Inshallah. 🤲 Can one really have it all? Ms. Elagammal is very far in her journey to find ⚖️ in all aspects of life and is probably one of the first muslim female trainees in the UK!     Surgery can be an extremely demanding speciality especially as a women and a mother! So join us at our talk show series ‘Chai with Surgeons’ to get the tea on “I am a surgeon but an even better mother!” featuring Miss Sara Maki ~~ Ms Sara Maki smashed it out the park and was so inspiring allah humma barik ♥️ She was so honest and empowering as she took us through her LTFT journey and how she found "the one" 💙💙 A bit about our guest: Ms Sara embarked on her surgical training following her graduation from Imperial College London, rotating through many specialities including trauma surgery, plastics surgery, cardio-thoracic and general surgery. Gaining experience from world-leading teaching hospitals, such as St Mary's Hospital and Guys and St Thomas's Hospital, Ms Sara developed a keen interest in minimally invasive surgical interventions. Coupled with her love of art and anatomy, this led to a career in facial aesthetics where Ms Sara applies skills she has amassed from years of training in operating theatres. Ms Sara is a strong advocate for patient safety, and evidence-based treatment is at the forefront of her practice. She has undertaken a Master's degree in Surgical Innovation, which has allowed her to critically appraise the efficacy and safety of new and emerging treatments before introducing them to her patients. Ms Sara has had extensive training in anatomy during medical school and her surgical career and likes to keep her anatomy knowledge and skills fresh and up-to-date by providing regular cadaver teaching to medical students. In clinic, Ms Sara assesses patients in a holistic manner, with the aim of balancing and harmonising facial features, taking into account patients' expectations and wishes at all times. Ms Sara believes in natural transformations that remain true to the patients' individual beauty. With a focus on patient safety, Ms Sara regularly attends advanced complications masterclasses and aesthetic conferences, to ensure the best possible outcome for each and very procedure. In her spare time, Ms Sara enjoys spending time with her two young daughters, reading fantasy novels and travelling abroad.
