Episode notes

In this episode of CDS Insight, we hosted a discussion featuring Kerry Brown, Professor of Chinese Studies and Director of the Lau China Institute at King's College, London; and Xiang Biao, Former Professor of Social Anthropology of St Hugh's College at the University of Oxford on the topic of "EDUCATION AND REAL ESTATES CRACKDOWN IN CHINA. In part I, on education crackdown, we looked at whether parental paranoia and venture capitalists not wanting to miss out on investment opportunities constitute reasons for tutoring in China becoming so popular. We then discussed how the crackdown accommodates birth policies and addresses China's looming demographic crisis to achieve 'Common prosperity', which President Xi's 14th 5-year plan underpins.
